SEO - Injecting new Keywords and Phrases

At the time that I started to write Strategic SEO - Building an Optimal Keyword Attack Formula I was also doing keyword research in order to set up a correct structure for this blog.  As you can see, one of the topic categories on newmediatype is Search Engine Optimization. One of the things that I learned from my keyword research was that improving search engine ranking for keyword ‘SEO’ or the phrase ‘Search Engine Optimization’  would not be easy. At least not for a while, as ranking well involves building content and receiving links amongst some other factors.

When I came up with the name Optimal Keyword Attack Formula I already knew from the extensive keyword research I did earlier that these words where not yet associated to anything in the Search Engine Optimization niche.  That would logically mean that if nobody is searching in Google or other search engines for the words ‘Optimal Keyword Attack Formula’, or similar, and I wasn’t ranking for any SEO related keywords or phrases,  the article wouldn’t get too many visitors …

Luckily there are other ways of receiving traffic except only ranking  well for certain keywords.  One popular way as you may know is through Social Media, so during the early period of the concept, while I was not ranking for any SEO related keywords or phrases, I used Social Media sites such as StumbleUpon in order to drive traffic to the article.

Because in the beginning I wasn’t receiving much traffic through SEO related keywords yet I tried several approaches in order to get visitors to check out the Strategic SEO Tutorial.  Some of the ways that I used where :

  • Putting up an attractive banner linking to the article on the homepage. This way users visiting the home page of blog through other keyword searches would notice and possibly click through.
  • Optimizing for SEO related keywords that are easier to rank for (for instance long tail) and linking to the Optimal Keyword Attack formula form those posts.
  • The usual activities such as leaving comments on other blogs whenever the topic would be related.

The idea of doing the above was to receive traffic through other ways instantly while building up rank for the more difficult keywords (keywords and phrases such as ‘SEO’ and ‘Search Engine Optimization’. (this method by the way is explained extensively in the Optimal Keyword Attack Formula tutorial)

But there’s something else that I would like to emphasize here as well :

Lately, I’ve been noticing something interesting in my blog statistics.  I’ve been receiving visitors through search terms such as keyword attack formula, optimal keyword formula, strategic seo and seo attack formula just to name a few.

What does this mean ?
The fact that these are phrases (built up out of more than 1 keyword)  tells me that people are directly starting to search for information related to the Optimal Keyword Attack Formula. Visitors are starting to come in through focused keyword search instead of being linked through or clicking on incentives placed on the blog.

Conclusion
By injecting new keywords and phrases in combination with going about search engine optimization strategically, you will eventually see results that are more satisfying than when only trying ranking for easier keywords.  Like explained in the keyword formula, fast traffic is nice, but implementing a strategic plan to eventually improve ranking for difficult keywords is essential for long term success.

In case of introducing a new idea or concept, injecting new keywords and phrases in combination with the above is an important part of positioning your idea originally and basically building up a niche in a niche.

Hello Lex. This article’s heading caught my eye but reading it is a bit of a challenge. Knowing a lot about SEO myself I realize that bold text weighs heavier than normal text for web crawlers, but there are so many keywords and phrases bolded in your copy it’s hard to read.

I think what everyone wishing to learn about SEO needs to remember is we need to first write for humans, not our buddy Googlebot. Of course learn SEO tactics and try to incorporate them into your copy, but a link here, title there, good header, etc. works very well without the need to bold every keyword phrase you’re going for.

    John,

Thanks for your feedback … I make words bold in order to emphasize for both Google and the reader … Indeed sometimes it can get a little ‘boldy’ when the enthusiasm to bring across a point takes over. I took away some as indeed at times they were double up. Thanks for pointing that out.

However I disagree about writing for Googlebot only. I’ve written a series of posts on SEO tactics because that’s what people don’t know enough about.

Most can start writing, without taking Google into the equation, and there are countless fantastic blogs that help people with writing (take http://www.copyblogger.com for example).

Actually the whole point of these posts are to teach a little bit about SEO, thus I think it makes perfect sense to actually do that …

To add to that, I’ve also written an in depth post on writing for by human for humans. The post is a two part article at : http://www.newmediatype.com/improve-your-blog-by-spicing-up-your-communication-12
