Improve your Blog by Spicing up your Communication (1/2)

After listening to Desmond Tutu being interviewed about the crisis in Kenya on CNN I couldn’t stop thinking about how valuable somebody like he is to our world and that we have to try to learn as much as we can from some people.

I know it might be surprising for some to find an article on a blog such as newmediatype that involves Archbishop Desmond Tutu. I also know that some of the younger readers might not even know who this man is, let alone what he has to do with improving online results, blogging or internet business.

Aside from the fact that I have great respect for Desmond Tutu and that I admire his inspirational words, I think he is a great example for this article because there is a lot, that those who want to establish relationships with mass communicative characteristics (like a large blog reader community) can learn from listening to influential people like Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama, Mandela or Mahatma Ghandi.

This post is about how powerful communication can be, which elements can make a strong message, the impact it can have and how bloggers can integrate these aspects into their routine of communication …

* By routine of communication I mean : writing articles, making a video post and networking. The next links is to a video of short speech of Desmond Tutu. Click here to listen to it, as we’ll be analyzing what makes this person such as powerful communicator.

Listening carefully to great speakers, like in the example above can be very educational for bloggers who want to improve their communicative skills and improve their results. It’s not even necessary to be completely interested in the topic that is discussed by the speaker in order to learn from them.

Analyzing how a message is delivered, by which I mean : how words are used and understanding which elements make the communication so powerful can teach bloggers how to interact with their audience more effectively.

When studying how some of the most influential people in the world speak, you may can find similarities in regard of what makes their messages so strong. Some of the most clearly identifiable factors are : idealism, inspiration, compassion and integrity.

When these are combined with understanding, personalization, timing and necessary personal traits (such as professional credentials) the result is a cocktail of synergistic ingredients that can work miracles on the receiver. This kind of communication can reach deeper then understanding only.

It has the potential to touch a person and change their opinion.

* Not many people think about the fact that aside from touching our emotions, these factors can have practical advantages as well. Part 2 of this post will discuss these as well.

Note :
The kind of communication that touches a person in my opinion is impossible ‘fabricate’. Especially when a speaker participates on the world stage with millions of eyes and ears focussed upon them. A ‘lie’ or twist of fact is easily identifiable when somebody like Desmond Tutu or Mandela would be dishonest. Hence the large amount of respect that these influential people enjoy around the planet is based on honesty and truth. These two factors seem to be the factors that help a speaker build a long lasting community around their cause. (or blog topic).

By now, you probably have an idea about where this post is going in regard of how we can improve our blogging.

Spicing up communication and improving interaction with your blog audience
If you are a blogger you probably don’t have to compare yourself to somebody as Tutu or Mandela. I doubt that right now you (the reader) are blogging from behind bars, sitting out a prison sentence for your cause ;)

However, there still are some things you can keep in mind which can make you blog much better. From a communicational standpoint (and that’s what blogging is usually about), by taking these things into account you can drastically increase interaction with your blog readers, or your audience.

Before I get to a list of the 5 most powerful factors that you can use to improve your blogging, it’s good to keep the following in mind :

Your blog audience consists of people. They have hopes, dreams and opinions and other interests. They have different things going on in their lives than only the topics they read about on the blog that they are subscribed to.

If you as a writer (or blogger) are able to smartly combines multiple interesting topics through use of the ’spice up factors’ listed in part 2 of this post, you can make your articles, video posts and comments more diverse, interesting, educational and accessible.

We can basically call this added value.

That said, let’s goto part 2 of this post to discuss the 5 most powerful factors which you can use to spice up your communication and improve interaction with your blog audience :)
