If you have read my previous post, which is about harmony between blog branding and monetization (making money from your blog) you’ve read why I am treating newmediatype with ’silk’ gloves in regard of blog monetization.
In this light, someone asked me yesterday about how I’m planning to ‘ensure’ that this blog will generate enough income and more importantly, a long term steady income from this blog. This is a question that many new bloggers who want to earn money with blogs are thinking about. The answer isn’t that hard though …
If you ask me what the best way of ensuring a steady income online is then the first things that pop to mind are :
1) spread risk by working on multiple online business projects at the same time.
2) try to diversify in regard of concept, and / or monetization strategy.
This is one of the major differences between successful web entrepreneurs (or a problogger) and the average blogger (who is struggling to make some money on the web). Like I explained in the harmony post, it could happen that newmediatype will hit a maximum profit ceiling. I don’t know yet what that maximum is (even though I have an idea).
This maximum depends partly on the topics the blog deals with (for instance in regard of adsense click commissions), the amount of ’slack’ that the blog mission allows in order implement a monetization strategy without damaging the brand and of course some other factors, such amount blog traffic and so on.
So what would a web entrepreneur do when their blog isn’t generating enough income ? If you say : “Look for another online business idea in order start up another project” you are correct. But you’re only half correct !
You see, most pro-bloggers and / or online entrepreneurs don’t make money from one blog only. They probably already have other blogs or projects going. On these other blogs they are probably applying different strategies in order to make money online (did we mention diversify ?) .
I told you that I am treating newmediatype with silk gloves. It’s a new blog and it doesn’t make me thousands but who says that right I’m not working on something else as well ? Maybe planning to start another online business project parallel to newmediatype on another domain name. That blog or site could be designed to aggressively promote certain affiliate products. Maybe newmediatype is just another way to promote my own affiliate products on another domain ?
Maybe I even have a blog which is totally different then newmediatype. A blog that doesn’t have unique content about online marketing and search engine optimization, but is getting a lot traffic nonetheless. Maybe this particular blog makes me good profits from advertising sales and commission generating clicks ?
If you’re a blogger or web entrepreneur and you’re serious about making money online, this is the frame of mind in which to think. So next time that you feel frustrated about how things are going with your projects, know that most successful bloggers and web entrepreneurs may be working on multiple projects at the same time. Also remember that having a thought out strategy can be the difference maker. Take the time to do solid research and see what others are really doing in order to succeed.
The Japanese build an entire economy on copying others and outdoing them. With some work and devotion, you may be able to earn much more then you ever thought was possible.
It’s points made in posts like this that give the beginning blogger or web money maker an inside look at what the others are doing to make more then the average.

Thank you so much, usefull +1
Thanks! Really interesting. I wish i could spend my time on writing articles…just have no time for it.
Amazing article. Although my intention for blogging isn’t to make an income, it would be kind of nice if I could even manage to make a steady amount of money after a few months of work.
I have a few idea’s on how to achieve this, I might blog them shortly myself.
I tend to notice that business are looking for cheaper ways to advertise. The internet is ideal for this. I don’t know about their sales, but I suppose that the sales dropped less than retailer sales due the price difference that online shops usually offer.
Anyone seen a change in affiliate income ?
Lurse :
When looking for a hosting company a good idea is to not look at what the ‘cheapest’ one is. Essentially most of them are inexpensive …
What to look for is quality : uptime, service and so on …. personally I’d recommend HostGator or blue host ….
newmediatype is hosted at Hostgator by the way .. (scroll down and you can find the link in the footer)…
What would you do if the internet crashed for good? Would you get used to life with less communication and less “being connected” or would you be pretty bummed for the rest of your life?
This is assuming it was not fixed. Perhaps some largescale EMP attack or something that crippled it for the next 50+ years or so.
